News & Events - 2013

LEND YOUR TIME - October 14: Meal Packing Event
From 2009 to 2011, Feeding America reports the number of Adams County residents faced with hunger has dropped 2.2% from 8,370 to 6,900. Even with this progress, one in ten of our people still struggle with hunger; roughly 27% of these individuals are not eligible for federal food assistance and turn to food pantries to fill the meal gap.

On Monday, October 14, United Way of Adams County has a unique opportunity feed the hungry by hosting an event to assemble ready-to-prepare meals to distribute to our county pantries. In just two hours, approximately 60 volunteers will measure dry pasta into pouches, add seasoning packets and vacuum seal the pouches. We have the potential to create over 4,100 packages that, when cooked, yield 25,000 servings of protein-fortified macaroni and cheese. Click Meal Packaging Event for the details. Call United Way at (217) 222-5020 to get involved!

September 9: Golf Tournament & Croquet Match
United Way of Adams County, Inc. is recruiting players for the First Annual Croquet Match to be held in conjunction with the Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Quincy Country Club. “The golf tournament has always been a great way to involve the community in our campaign,” said Cheryl Waterman, Executive Director of the United Way. “This year, though, we wanted to find a way to engage more participants and create a fun alternative for people who might be interested in something other than golf.”

The Annual Golf Tournament and the new Croquet Match are two of many events held in the community throughout United Way’s annual campaign. These events raise support for area agencies and programs dedicated to advancing the common good. Proceeds from the tournament will be reinvested in local initiatives that empower community members to improve education, achieve financial stability, and live healthy lives.
